When you apply for the job in a company, and your application got selected for the same. They call you for the interview session.
Being an applicant, how to make your first impression better? How to prepare yourself for an interview? Which thing to remember before the interview? Many questions arise when we talk about an interview.
An interview may be the first face-to-face interaction between the applicant and the interviewer. The first impression is the last impression.
Here we are sharing Ten Simple (But Important) Things To Remember About Interview.
1. Prepare yourself
Take a copy of the CV that you sent to the same company. Read it again, what you’ve written in your CV. Research the employer, go over the job description and take notes on how your skills and strengths match up.
The interviewer can ask you about your previous position. Like where you worked, and when. What was your role in the company etc.?
3.Wear formal dress
You should wear dress according to the same industry. You can ask people who already work there.
Some companies inform about the dress code for the interview. If you get informed, then you must follow the rule.
If you’re still not sure, go for something more formal – a suit or dark trousers/skirt with a smart shirt or top.
Well-dressed, professional look is one of the most important parts of any interview, no matter what the company.
Wear clothing that fits your body shape.
4. Research about company
You must have some basic knowledge about the company where you are going to interview. When did the company start? What’re their aims? Work style etc.?
Company history, locations, divisions and a mission statement, Background information can be easily found in an “About Us” section on the most company websites. Read it and point out some relevant facts for the same. You can review it before the interview to refresh the facts in your memory.
Nowadays, most of the companies connect with their clients or customers via social media. So it’s easy to find info about a company from LinkedIn Page, Facebook page, etc.
Research about yourself, too. Yes, yourself. You must be able to discuss any part of your previous work or background. Creating your talent inventory refreshes your memory and helps you quickly remember experiences you would otherwise have forgotten during the interview.
5.Reach on time
You should arrive to interview place before time. [At least 5 minutes]
Prepare travel plan for the interview day. You can visit the meeting place to check the distance and way to reach that place. Give yourself 20 minutes extra for traffic problems or delays. If something wrong happens, then you can manage the time to reach timely. Somehow if you’re running late, then make sure to call your interviewer and inform them about the time.
Reaching timely on the interview will show that you give importance to time.
If you arrived at the interview and you’ve still some extra time, then you can feel comfortable to face the interview. Don’t forget to drink water if need. While drinking pay attention that your dress won’t get wet.
6. Answer in simple words
Showing your personality in a meeting is important. Try to be open and honest about your skills and strengths, giving examples of when you’ve used them.
Use simple words to reply any answer or to discuss anything, don’t use complicated words. Some words may be not easy to pronounce or spell; then you can use alternative words.
7. Ask questions
If the interview is a two-way interview, then be ready with your questions at the end of the discussion. The interviewer may offer you to put questions to him/her about the company or job?
Asking a few questions at the end of the interview shows that you’re confident, thoughtful and interested in the position.
You can ask for details about the job, what an average day is like, etc.
8. Keep Your Mobile silent
Before you get to your interview, bear in silence your phone. Messaging while interview session makes it clear to your potential employer that getting the job is not your top priority.
For the same reasons, don’t answer or make calls during the interview. Keeping your mobile phone in your bag before the interview is the best option.
Interviews can make you a bit anxious, but there are techniques you can use to keep those nerves in check.
During the job interview, stay calm as much as possible. Remember that your body language says as much about you like your answers to the questions.
Maintain eye contact with the interviewer. Pay attention to the interviewer while he/she is asking to you; listen to the entire question before you answer. Carefully listening can help you to answer better.
10. Practice and Prepare Yourself
Practice to response to the typical job interview questions.
If you are going to face interview for the first time, then you can try speaking with your friend. Create an environment like a meeting with the help of your friend or family member and assume that your friend is an interviewer, tell him to ask questions and reply him/her.
If you are a single personal, living alone, then you can try practice to speak by facing the mirror.
Hope these simple tips will help to face you an interview. Best of luck to you.
